Oxford Open Doors 2023

On 9th and 10th September 2023 the Park’s team will be offering a number of activities and opportunities for visitors of all ages to get a more in-depth look at the Parks and how it is run.

The Superintendent and Head of the Parks will give visitors the chance to delve into the history of the University Parks with a display of historic photos of the park, past gardening teams and the machinery used to date.

The Deputy Head of the University Parks team will also be offering a guided tour of the park and it’s many fascinating and beautiful plants and trees, along with the opportunity to get an up-close look at some of our tractors and ride-on mowers and plant some seeds, which can then be taken home.

In addition, visitors can meet local artist and biologist Emma Coleman-Jones, who will be displaying a selection of her charcoal drawings of trees from the Parks.

Emma, who completes her drawings outside in all weathers and seasons, will be on hand to talk about her work and to encourage visitors to get out into the Parks to make their own drawings.

Paper, charcoal and chalk will be available along with sketch maps of the Parks highlighting some of Emma’s favourite trees.

Activities will be available from 12pm on both days, with talks and tours scheduled as follows:

Saturday 9th September - Superintendent talk on the history of the Parks starts at 12pm with a guided tour of the park at 2pm.

Sunday 10th September - Deputy head’s guided tour of the Park at 2pm.

Please note, all activities/tours begin from the Tentorium.
