Chromosome Number Changes

Chromosome Number Changes Chromosomal variation is widespread in plants. Within a given genus or species the plants may have small differences in chromosome numbers (which is the characteristic number of chromosomes contained in the cell nucleus of a given species). Changes in chromosome number can occur by the addition of all or part of a chromosome, the loss of an entire set of chromosomes or the gain of one or more sets of chromosomes.
