Parks team inspect next generation of bedding plants

As the seasons change, we at the Parks are already looking towards our winter and spring bedding displays.

This year, for the first time we had our bedding plants grown for us by Taunton Deane Nurseries in Somerset. The plants were very good quality so we have decided to use them again to grow the spring bedding too.

Some of the Parks team visited the nursery recently to see the facilities and to check on the plants’ progress. Taunton Deane have a reasonable-sized nursery at the edge of Taunton, overlooking the Blackdown Hills. There are several glasshouses and tunnels used to produce plants for local authorities including Taunton and Bridgewater, Salisbury and East Devon.

We inspected our plants, which are looking really good and growing well. We also took the opportunity to check out what others had chosen, and we may borrow some of their ideas next year!

The team will be busy planting out the bedding in late October. As well as the plants, we have also ordered nearly 20,000 bulbs from Holland to really give the University grounds the wow factor in the winter and spring.
