Mesopotamia Walk to close for five weeks from 26 June

Pedestrians and cyclists will still be able to get to Marston via the Marston Cycle Path, but will not be able to use the section of Mesopotamia Walk between Music Meadow and the bottom of Kings Mill Lane. See the map provided for details of the affected area.

We apologise for any inconvenience this causes. The sluice gates link the two parallel watercourses between which the path runs; the mill stream that once served the King's Mill and the lower River Cherwell. They are crucial for controlling the water levels in the upstream sections of the Cherwell, but are badly decayed and blocked by debris, meaning they can no longer be operated properly.

Estates Services staff and contractors will remove the debris, replace the damaged timber gates and overhaul the winding mechanisms. This work can only be done in midsummer when the river is at its lowest and outside of fish breeding seasons.
