Holywell Millstream Bridge repairs to start in September

University staff and contractors will start work on Sunday 5 September and should be finished within eight weeks. They will renew the bridge deck, improving drainage; replace structural timbers with steel; and replace the handrails, bringing them into compliance with modern safety regulations. This is essential maintenance that should keep the bridge working well for several decades to come.

The bridge will remain open to foot and cycle traffic throughout, with the exception of some restrictions on Sunday mornings to allow essential safety work which cannot be done at other times. To ensure safety and minimise the risk of collision, cyclists will be asked to dismount before crossing during the works.

The bridge, which connects Marston and Mesopotamia with the city centre, is owned and maintained by the University and leased to the County Council as part of the cycle track.
