Staff achievements
We don’t usually talk about ourselves, but there have been some important staff changes and achievements over the summer.
We have so many successes to share:
- All three of our apprentices, who were externally assessed in July and August, were awarded distinctions. Congratulations to Helen, Rowan and Taylor on this wonderful achievement.
- Two staff have successfully completed the RHS Level 2 course: we congratulate Helen on her distinction, and Aimee, who achieved a merit.
- Paul has graduated with an Honours degree in Business Management.
- Paul has also been named as a ProLandscaper 30-under-30 winner. This award, now in its tenth year, celebrates the industry’s youth, recognising outstanding dedication and talent amongst people under 30 in landscape architecture, horticulture, arboriculture, engineering and land-based management.
Paul Hutchinson, Operations Manager and Deputy Head of Parks
Welcome to Helen, Katie and Perry, who have joined us as gardeners, and Aimee, our new senior gardener. John has been promoted to a senior gardener role.
And looking to the future:
- We are delighted to welcome our new horticultural apprentices: Will, Matthew and Amber. Unusually, they are all graduates. Will has a degree in History; Matt in Music and Amber in Physical Activity and Health Promotion.
- Rowan has started an apprenticeship in arboriculture
- Josie has started the RHS Level 2 course in Horticulture
- Harrison has started a degree in Business Management
- Debs has enrolled for a Masters in Horticulture with the RHS.

Would you be interested in signing up to our new quarterly newsletter? We are planning each season to send out to subscribers some more detailed information about what is happening in the Parks. We will include a seasonal plant profile, information about events, progress with projects that we are planning, fundraising information and opening hours.
The first newsletter will give subscribers a first view of the new signage we are planning for the Parks, and will tell you about how we manage the water flow in ‘our’ stretch of the Cherwell using the downstream sluices.
