New entrance for University Parks

Access to University Parks will be improved when work starts on Monday 30 October to install a new set of decorative iron gates.

The new entrance is expected to be ready early in the New Year and will sit opposite the Department of Materials on Parks Road between Keble Gate and North Lodge. Preparations for the gates should cause minimal disruption for University Parks’ visitors and users of the foot and cycle path on Parks Road.

Works will involve removing a short stretch of railings and some shrubs, preparatory ground works and creation of foundations before the gates themselves are installed. No trees will be removed as part of the project. The gates were designed and made by the artist blacksmith, Terrence Clark, in 2007 and were originally sited outside the Clarendon Laboratories.

They are known as the ‘gingko gates’ as the wrought iron posts are topped with a finial shaped as a gingko leaf.

Any enquiries regarding the works should be directed to university.parks@admin.ox.ac.uk.

Thank you for your understanding.
