Ilex aquifolium

This week’s plant is a rather fitting one for the season: Ilex aquifolium, more commonly known as weeping holly. Hollies come in to their own during late November and December and can be seen in a variety of leaf shapes, colours, and forms. This one, which can be found in the West Walk in University Parks, has variegated leaves and weeping branches. Native hollies berry well but are quickly eaten by birds.
