Plant of the Week

The Winter Daphne – Daphne odora ‘Aureomarginata’ – is an evergreen low-growing shrub that does not grow higher than a metre. It prefers a sunny, sheltered position with free-draining soil; it produces lovely, sweet-scented flowers – ‘odora’ means fragrant. A native of China and Japan, it was introduced to Britain in 1771. You can see – and smell – it in the University Parks on the North Walk, near the North Lodge.
