Pyrus calleryana

Pyrus calleryana, also known as Callery Pear, is an elegant, medium-sized tree, which produces lovely white flowers during April followed by rich autumn colours later in the year. Pear wood is prized for its fine texture and is used to produce some woodwind instruments and wood cuts. It is also used in furniture making.

Introduced from China in 1908 by the famous plant collector Ernest Wilson, it can be found in the West Walk.
